Maddocks Mould Making is run by Al Maddocks, drawing upon a network of experts in complementary fields when required.
“I have over 13 years’ experience as a mould maker (although I actually started casting at eight – making lead miniatures in my friend’s kitchen). I was educated at Monkton Combe in Bath, followed by higher education in Art & Design. In 1994 I took up an apprenticeship with an artist in South Yorkshire.
“Since then I’ve worked around the UK and the world, initially as a painter, sculptor and teacher. In 2000 I decided to focus on mould making and casting. I was the head mould maker and production manager for two firms for 12 years until I decided to go freelance, launching Maddocks Mould Making in 2012. I have worked with all sorts of materials, and have been using Jesmonite longer than almost anyone else in this industry.
“I live and work in South Shropshire, where, in addition to the beautiful countryside, I have access to a wide network of friends, colleagues and suppliers with complementary skills and resources. I like to spend my spare time traveling, keeping fit, life drawing and painting and watching live music.”
